I'd be looking at worn rings myself.

Good point, I had similar trouble on my GP on the way to Cleethorpes turned out my rings had snapped.

Now you mention it, mine went the same way when the rings were gummed up. Certainly worth a look.

I was thinking (dreading) the same thing myself but wanted to check everything else before I take the top end off.............my only question is with the rings gummed up or worn will you still get normal / near normal compression when kicking it over?

I'm guessing this would explain why it runs normally when hot?

Finally got round to doing this - as mentioned above, the rings were well and trully gummed into the piston. Piston was pretty badly scored as well (the barrel looked fine though!). It's the first time I've had the top end off this one so I don't know if it was an old piston or not.

Back on the road with a HB 208 top end from another one of my scooters
