Am almost there with my LI125 restomod full rebuild with gp crank, with SR alloy 185 cylinder and pwk 28/30 carb, scootopia ancelotti exhaust. Having some problems starting. It will only start and run for a short period if I have the throttle wide open. When it does run get smoke and oil out of the two joints on the exhaust leaving out deposit on the floor Obviously I need to fix The leaky joints, what's the best way to do this? Any ideas on what else could be wrong.
Thanks in advance

Cheers
Tippo

no idea on the carb set up but your comments regarding "smoke and oil" out of the exhaust joints is worrying. How much smoke? what type? How much oil? and again what type?

sounds like it's flooding......is the choke sticking, what size jets, etc

just seen the picture.......have you done a compression test ? could be a leaking seal

So I guess do a leak down test to check its not pulling in oil from the chain case?

I'd look at changing the fuel as I've known people have similar starting + smoke issues because of contaminated fuel, which was straight from the local 'big brand' service station.

The other thin that I would look at is whether the float in your carb is sealing correctly as that much liquid in the exhaust makes me think that petrol is flooding through, which could also be a factor with the poor starting. If you are using a modern Dellorto, make sure that the float is not full of petrol. If you're using a Jetex, original Dellorto, or just about any carb (!), make sure that your float pin is home and not making contact with the float bowl as this can cause the needle to vibrate and not seal when shut.

Best of luck.
