Does anyone know the ruling on lighting?

Nearly finished a project and have got the brake light working but can't get front light to work. "Bloke down the pub" reckons if the lights are covered up, then the mot station give you an advisory to say lights not working/not tested...? Is this true?

Mot booked for Wednesday and haven't got time to do it!

Cheers in advance

i know its a bit scary really innit but thats what he told me to do, so thats what i did. :D tape came off as soon as i left though, wired my rear light permanently on, front and rear brake lights working and full beam on a switch. good enough for me as i won't be riding at night anyway

lights and mot, its all or nothing.
If a light is fitted and visible it has to work and need a full Mot.
my understanding is its not allowed to have a daytime Mot and lights.
I'm sure Shaun will clarify.

Also if I wire my lights so main beam and rear are on permanently do I need side light?

It may not help you totally but mine passed with no advisories and my rear is permanently on, the front works on/off, main & dip but I have no front side/parking light (festoon).
I also have two small lights fitted by the PO to the rear carrier which aren't wired. They didn't mention those at all. I was going to remove them, but I may look to fit some amber lenses/LEDs on them for an indicator project, so I left em :)
