My original one was a Mitsubishi one
Probably a "Mitsubhi", made in India, I believe. :D

At least with 'points' and and the old 6 volt system you knew where ya stood and could sort it at the roadside :D

Hi Monty.....whats the update on the problem ? any progress ? .......just that I'm finding a similar problem timing a mate;s Mugello 186, we have about 14 degrees on tickover and the correct 17 degrees up and through the rev range (on a static set up)

Sounds like a problem i had a while back, turned out to be the pick up magnets not lining up properly with the triggers on the flywheel! I removed a couple of laminates from the pick up to lower it and hey presto! Was like a different scoot :D

Faf.........thanks, yes might have to try that............but to be honest 2015 and having to butcher new parts is unacceptable practice , I would rather pay a premium to a dealer who checks and re-works the parts to fit the once lol !!

To be honest I found the pickup height was wrong even on the BGM stator in fact that was the worst I made a spaced as I calculated it needed lifting. Last I heard MB are selling a range of spacer but add that they should not be needed.....BUT the wandering was the same.
I had a Ducati CDI on my Imola setup that was not quite as bad and in the end went for a BGM red CDI at least it was stable. ran it static for a while and went back to the M Tech and its running this at the moment. What was it.......F Knows I would say CDI if anything. But Im a bit worried about mix and matching parts and if you look at this one problem its everything from crank, taper, flywheel, stator, pickups and CDI. Points and a fag paper look a good bet.
PS yes you were correct firekdp I cannot read should have gone to ....

Monty....thanks. I think the fella is going to return the stator and get a new one tomorrow......... One thing that was mentioned to me by an engine builder was that you should not use a strobing gun off a 12 volt battery ?? which I did challenge as I have built 2 of my own engines and they both run perfectly fine AND I believe in both Stickys book and Cam Lam this is the way mentioned.

You might be right on the mix and match. I run standard S.I.L parts on my 2 lammies without any problems now

I wonder who these experts are. I have borrowed a posh one with a tacho built in a standard 12 come and an old unpowered Hawk one that simply plugs in inline. They all gave the same readings. I was told also that the double furring point can screw it up. You trust who you trust.

the running it of a 12V battery might refer to running it from the battery of the vehicle being tested.

I was always taught that this was bad practice, something to do with the charging from the alternator affecting the reading??

maybe its crap but I always use a spare battery thats in the garage just for this kind of job
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it does fail, hit them with it!!!

Tony, yes I do also. its a 12 volt off a fiesta and I just occasionally keep it charged up for intermittent use..
