I remember back in the day riders would chrome their side panels and then over spray to get a candy apple type of finish. Has anyone experimented with trick colour combinations or effects.

May not be obvious form this image but if you see one in the flesh!

So I am currently thinking silver before blue.

It probably WAS Candy paint that they used as it is translucent and designed to be sprayed over a white or silver base. Tricky stuff to put on unless you are an experienced sprayer with good equipment. You need to apply an even regular coat, all overlaps must be the same as well as gun speed and distance from the surface. My efforts when I tried it back in the 70's looked terrible as I was using a cheep compressor without a reservoir and the finished panel had dark splodges which corresponded with the pulses from the compressor. Additional coats just made it darker, ruined the candy effect and didn't cover the splodges :(

That Alfa is stunning btw 8-)

I discovered, which I suppose should be obvious, that one can get clear powder coating.
