I have to say I'm disappointed with SIP.
Bought from SIP front shocker new from a dealer at a rally last year. Seen the recall info checked the shocker and it has id 305D which was one of the recalled batch.
Contacted SIP and because I never bought it direct , and cannot contact the dealer they don't want to know.
It's their fault manufacture and they need to take more responsibility for the problem, shouldn't matter where the shocker was purchased.
SIP recall all Vespa PX & PK shock absorbers.

What does the law say, regarding this? I'm pretty sure SIP is correct.

I would imagine that the liability would lie with sip as the manufacturer. The dealer who sold the shock is merely an agent selling the product. You could argue that under the "fit for purpose" or "cause of action" sections of the sale of goods act, particularly as sip have issued a recall notice. That said as sip are not a uk company they may not be subject to the sale of goods act. Public relations would suggest that they ought to accept any product back if it is known that if it fails it could be life threatening!

Hi, I spoke to SIP about this. You are supposed to return anything to where you bought it. They want the returns to go via the dealer so that they can track and account for all the ones that need to be returned. If the dealer is 100% untraceable (which seems unusual) then phone back and I'm sure they'll sort you out. Ask to speak to Stephan.Ianh5 wrote:I have to say I'm disappointed with SIP.

i have just been credited with the cash into my SIP account, which I didn't want. I wanted a refund into my bank account, now Im stuck with £120 credit note for SIP which at the moment I don't need. Theres also no mention of a discount for replacement shock.
I know this must be a massive headache for SIP but I think the way it has been handled is terrible and I will be using Scooter-Centre when I can, from now on.
Ian, if you have trouble getting in touch with SIP let me know I have a few email addresses, not sure which ones are active though. Im sure I have put Stephan's email address on this thread somewhere. I would certainly be removing the shock as it has already caused someone on here to come of there scooter, its not worth the risk.

Hi Speed Demon
Thanks for your post.
I have contacted SIP once again, but they will not replace or refund without an invoice for the front shocker. I explained that it was bought on a rally from a dealers stall, I cannot remember the dealer and did not get a invoice but they weren't interested.
It shouldn't matter from who the shock was bought, it's a SIP shock absorber with the 305d code from the recalled batch , bought on the dates of the recall. It's a SIP problem not the dealer so they should sort.
Very Poor customer service and I for one will not purchase another SIP product for any of my scooters. If there's a recall on car parts it doesn't matter where you bought the vehicle the manufacturer sorts the issue, why should scooter part manufacturers be any different.
Thanks for your post.

I noticed they were selling them again at a slightly higher price, I wonder why. I don't even think I was reimbursed the postal charges. I think I will stick with BGM, YSS and Bitube shocks from now on.joey wrote:..got the shock and additional softer spring...notified of recall..sent back FOC..contacted them through letter received...awaiting credit...there is a new improved version available....
They used to be on here answering your questions, but that seems to have stopped. i guess the forum has to stay neutral as they are sponsoring the Vespa section. Will be interesting to read next months Scooter magazines.
Ian, have you thought about contacting Scootering.
HI GLScoot
Thanks for the info
I've removed the Front Shocker as i just dont trust it, bit the bullet and ordered a Bitubo replacement, not from SIP may i add.
SIP have been back in touch today saying the may be willing to check the Shock absorber i have , if i send it to them and pay the postage both ways, which is a bit of a compromised. At present i have what looks like a perfectly good SIP front shocker sat in the garage which i dont trust and would not use, at least if its checked over and if needed i will have a spare front shock that i am confident is safe and fit for purpose.
Pity this option wasn't offered a few weeks ago when i first contacted SIP.
