I've been having trouble with my otherwise perfect working back brake due to oil ingress from the gear box. I've replaced the final drive oil seal 3 times (Rolf seals seated properly) which lasts a few miles until the oil comes through onto the shoes. The bearing is Casa Lambretta with no play. The problem started after I broke my Cyclone 5 speed for the first time. The casing was thoroughly cleaned but the bearing was never replaced. I guess the shrapnel has lunched the bearing/layshaft combo and this is the problem. Everything feels right and tight but I presume the filings have damaged the bearing.

I don't even know why I'm asking I've got to change them.

Assuming it's not damaged the lay shaft itself :( hope it's just the bearing though.

If there is no play in the bearing I would think the area of the lay shaft were the seal contacts is damaged.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I'll start with the 'O' ring and go through the process of elimination.

Make sure you thoroughly clean the hub and casing with brake cleaner ... New pads too?

Check the bearings not spinning in the casing I've had that before
As my Dad used to say "Each to their own lad"
