whilst stripping my motor to do some tweeks i gave my flywheel a quick check for bearing play and i felt quite a bit of "rocking",i wouldnt mind but this bearing has done 1000 miles
anyone else had premature bearing failure/wear like this?

It was a FAG bearing,i,l check the crank when i remove it,im just suspicious of reputable bearings being made in India and wondered if anyone else has had a problem...hopefully its a one off then

Ummm quite a few fag bearings are made in india and have been for years. Many genuine piaggio bearings similarly made in japan / china.
I don't know why people automatically assume somethings shite because of where its made.

good shout bristolmod....crank is about 0.010" out,its welded and not twisted a couple of turns in the vice opposite the crankpin has pulled it to within 0.001"

id welded this crank before i built a crank trueing jig so yes i never rechecked it,i clamped a known true crank,welded it but didnt re-check it,so its my own fault
weather its welded or not the webs can splay inward or outward on a rebuild,ie opposite the pin,only marginal...but its magnified at its furthest point(where i put the dti) ie right by the flywheel thread so you can either use wedges/chisel to open them out or clamp them in a vice to close them in and re-checking it on a jig,...so yes id say it can be done..
but trying to rotate a web on a welded pin would probably cause a problem or be very difficult,you maybe get a thou or two rotation but anymore your going to break the weld or do damage

Cheers for that. I have never had a crank welded but I have thought about it. That said I have (touch wood) never had a crank go out of true on my TS1 (Grampian fettled Indian webs and ke175 Conrod).

It's good to know that you have found the fault but there are some fake bearings out there. A friend has recently realised that he had fitted some fake bearings bought from a reputable dealer. Dealer was not aware but further investigations found that fake bearings are usually stamped with Japan because people buy those more readily than ones stamped India. I believe there were a load of fake bearings (FAG) sold on eBay a while back
