I have just bought a VBB with standard 150 engine. Only had chance to kick it over and seems to run fine. I'm thinking of upping the power by kitting it, I believe Pinasco do a 2port 177 kit, also upgrade the carb to 24 and upgrade exhaust, change bearings and seals.
My dilemma is would it be worth doing all that to the 2 port engine, or should I just swap it out for a px engine. Would the 2 port Pinasco kit perform as well on the VBB engine as a PX one
Also is there an easy way of updating to 12 v lights etc with the VBB engine and stator

You could probably pick a decent P2 engine for £600 +. Once that's fitted you've no hassle....maybe the wiring but that would give you the 12v system.
The cost and hassle of building a kitted 150 engine doesn't compare (IMO)

you can have plenty of fun w/ the vbb engine. the vbb crank isn't as robust as the px but there are plenty of ways to remedy that. the pinasco kit is a good addition, it won't be as powerful as it's 3 port cousins but it will be way better than stock. i like the idea of using what you have so i'd recommend the pinasco top end, matching the air box and cases to yr 24/24 carb, get a hold of some 4x8 tires for an easy up gear, and look into getting one of these to up grade yr ignition,AndyS wrote:I have just bought a VBB with standard 150 engine. Makes sense to me using the Pinasco. Okay it won't be particulary fast but that's hardly the point, useable is enough. And you don't need to go through all the nonsense of having an odd sized and totally differant wheel and if swopping it out stripping the motor to put in higher gearing to allow for the reduced rim size.

Sprint 1 etc Race crank..120
24 carb.......................52
On standard 150 22/67 gearing that should match a P2 performance....easily
Elecronic = + 225 (inc loom £27, switches £25, bulbs £5)
12v only = + 100 (inc loom £27, switches £25, bulbs £5 )
Either way:
+ re-build labour bearings seals and gaskets + eg. cruciform) = say £150
Price of a new P2 lump £1200? if you can find one
Price of a 2nd hand P2 lump £450 requiring a check and build
P2 engine-wise unless you buy new you will have the same re-build costs plus re-wiring costs as stated.
That is as simplified as I can manage ref costs.
