The piston Harry uses is 68.0mm Taiwanese high silicone content, has 1.2mm thick Rik wire rings ( from CR250 Honda ) this allows a very wide exhaust port to be made 44 to 45 mm is reliable (66%), the 218cc version has his own 60mm crank that closes the inlet at the original closing point, approx 55 deg atdc, this of course can be extended to 60 deg for more top end, but looses a bit of the bottom. Best pipe is the revolver making 16.4 hp at 6000 and 15ft/lbs at 5700rpm. With a Simonini modified it makes 15 hp at 6500 and 14 ft/lbs at 4300. Torque curves are very flat from 3250 to 6500. The 218 will hit 75mph flat out with std P2 gearing, or you can use the 23/64 gear kit with a T5 4th, same top speed but nicer to ride. The 207 kit with the 1.5mm packer with a flowed crank, cases matched and inlet port opening 10 deg earlier flies! nearly as good as the 218 but not the same torque in the mid. Std pipe is not the best for peak hp but goes well! the SIP road adds top speed. Std PM evo is very good (like revolver) so is std Simonini.

Thanks fellas, also could anyone suggest how they would run one of these kits in?

The dyno motor had nearly 300 miles on it, not the final spec ( wider transfers work better, 27mm wide) piston clearance has to be 5 thou minimum or it will nip if you are not careful! std Piaggio clearance is approx 5.5 thou, they do need to be run in though:-)

Spoke with Scot the AF Rayspeed mechanic and who suggested using mineral oil at 3% premixed for the first 500 miles before changing over to semi synth.

Schedule for speeds and distances are:

First 100 miles up to 35 mph
200-300 miles 35-45mph
300-500 miles up to 55mph

Service and the final 600-1000 miles just build up graduallly to maximum no two up riding and hold back on hills how does this sound?

i was told run it in fast it'll go fast! meaning, hard acelleration blips ie...0-30mph 0-40mph acellerate hard then sit for the first 150mile don,t go beyond 40mph round town miles, then next 150miles 0-50mph hard accellerate, next 150mile 0-60 hard accellerate but drop back to 50mph....you want the rings to bite in and bed themselves into the barrel and not polish the barrel by ponsing about by doing 30mph for a 1000mile, don't over jet or add more oil. A to B running/short runs hot and cold engine for 450-600mile good look

Cheers Gadge, I forgot to mention that he also said stick to 10-15 min journeys using plenty of short bursts up and down the gears around town for the first 300 miles or so, I've been led to believe that using mineral oil helps with the bedding in of the piston rings as its not as good at lubricating

Mine is put away at the moment, but will be dragging it out for the Cocoa Beach down in Florida next month.
Had it out nearly every day to drive to work and run it in, done about 300+ miles now. Mid range its well torquey in every gear compared to before, and just seems much better to drive. Not really had it flat out but had it up to 55-60mph a couple times for a wee burst. Taking it to get the carb /jetting etc set up properly on the dyno this weekend before the rally season starts.

I'll post up the results of the dyno if youre interested. I'll post up the finished spec as well.

How are you going about running yours in fraser, what total mileage do you plan to cover and what type of oil have you been using fraser?

Everyone's got their own idea on running in but I kept it below half throttle for the first hundred miles, then no more than 40mph (around 4000rpm) for the next 200 miles (300 miles total) after that kept it to 40-45mph but done short bursts up to 55-60mph.

Probably done just under 400 miles now and intend to take in relatively easy for the next couple of hundred of miles.

For the first couple of hundred miles I was using 4% mix (as advised by Harry Barlow) then dropped it to 3% mix as I was just doing short trips around town. Still running 3% and will stick to that unless I'm doing long runs (rallies) when I'll probably use 4% again. Using Rock oil.

No doubt there will be a million different opinions out there but it seems to be working fine for me at the moment.

Final spec after the dyno run earlier today;
Harry Barlow 207cc cylinder (standard barrel rebored and ported),
Harry Barlow fettled (standard) head,
68mm Harry Barlow piston,
18 degree timing (IT mark),
Standard carb with 128 main jet,
Air mix screw 2 turn out,
Standard crank,
Standard P200E gearing,
Revolver RHS exhaust.

The scooter made 10HP on the dyno today, which is only a little more that standard (9HP). So it wont be setting the world alight but the torque was much better than before. 10lb/ft of torque at just over 3000rpm with a nice big flat flat torque curve to 7000rpm.

Could have squeezed a little more HP by coming down on the jetting but was happy with setup like it is. Should be a perfect touring setup which is what I was after in the first place. I'll stick a copy of the dyno graph in the dyno section when I suss out how to do it!

Cheers to Dan.
