Has anyone fitted one of Rich_T's ignition kits? If so is there any feed back? I've got hold of the donor parts, but before I buy the rest, I would like to know how the kit compares to say a Readspeed kit or a Varitronic!! Any views?

you can get all the data from here http://www.zeeltronic.com/page/aprilia.php they do pop up on Ebay every now and again but remember you'll also need to get the programming cable and software if you want to make curve corrections.

If you really want to go to town try running a carb from the new RS125 ( like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APRILIA-RS-12 ... 53ed3b4f97 BUT make sure you get the TPS with it) as this has a TPS in it which could probably be integrated with the TPS input which is already integrated with the Zeeltronic unit (this would give you a 3D ignition map, read the manual and you'll see what I mean). The newer RS125 carbs are a regular item on Ebay, they look very similar to a PHBH carb but they have a black lump at the top front which is the TPS. One word of caution is that I haven't actually put a multimeter across the connections on this carb so I couldn't swear that they are compatible with the Zeeltronic, from a common sense point of view they would be mad if they were not compatible.

The Zeeltronic needs to be wired in so be aware that if you you this item you'll need a different type of connector to the standard RS125 CDi connector.

The TPS input has to be enabled, read the manual here http://www.zeeltronic.com/manuals/manua ... 290610.pdf page 4 chapeter 5.1 Essentially the throttle position will automatically change the ignition curve, this helps for things like the over run going into corners and accelerating out etc. The Zeeltronic also has adjustable outputs to drive two solenoids one for the powervalve and one for a power jet.

For connectors I would use the water proof connectors such as those found in the Vehicle wriring products catalogue etc. These ignitions are expensive spending the extra on a good connector would be highly advisable.

The crank taper does not need to be modified, the taper on the flywheel needs to be modified and a sacrificial mag flange if you are emotionally attached to your original. If it is a road bike you might want to work out a rubber gator for the bottom of the mag housing where the pickup adjustment protrudes.

These new Aprilia carbs are quite small, I'm guessing 25-28mm. not really for big block engines but you could really do something with the small blocks. The GT ignition is concieved as the basic platform for more advance ignition and fuel systems. Essentially you start with the system and donar RS parts as is, the next step is Zeeltronics and fianally open loop EFi with a piggy back CDi. Along the way you get the benefits of reliable & stable 180watt 12VDC lighting and purpose built wiring looms, volt meters, rev counters, lap counters etc etc.

Thanks for the advice. My only problem is where to put a battery. Looks like I'll have to fit a leg shield toolbox (which i'm not keen on) as I have a long range tank.

Although im not saying use this plastic rear toolbox for a battery, there is a position to exploit here, maybe one of the metal guru members could knock something up and make a few quid :D

A couple of people have used a small good quality battery fitted in the glove box. This still leaves about half the usable space in the glove box.

Personally, I would always use a good quality battery like Varta or Yuasa. The reason for this is that I recently found out on my NC30 (almost the very very hard way) that a cheap battery can melt the generator wiring and fry the stator windings, even start a fire if I hadn't clocked it in time. Moral of the story, never skimp on a battery.
