I,m only mentioning this cos not a lot of folk realise the best way to do these..
firstly ,say you want a Red metal flake paint job ..well of course you can just use Red flake, but another way is to use silver or gold flake and cover it with red candy...
SO...say you would like a two or even three coloured flake design, instead of buying three diferent coloured flakes and taking lots of time an effort in masking up and flaking the different areas in different coloured flakes just flake the whole lot in silver (or gold) and coat the different areas in candy and then laquer up..

also, the choice of coloured base coat (under the flakes ) can of course affect the end result and overall effect.
example, say you wanted a blue flake job..well naturally you would probably use a vibrant blue as a base colour..which is fine, but also you could say use a green base and this would change the end effect to a sort of "peacock blue".
lots of interesting affects can be obtained by mismatching bases and flakes .. :D

just back tracking a bit and going on to "CANDY " colours again..
as i say,if you just use silver or gold flake they can be coated in candy colours to get the same result.
but also there are some very good effects to be got by doing things this way ..
CANDY paints /colours are very translucent..in other words "see through" or "thin",so much so that you have to be very aware that when using them its very important to get exactly the same number of coats/coverage on each item ..otherwise things wont match..for example ,four coats of candy over the same base as something with just two coats of candy can and usually does look quite different.
This translucent effect can also be used to great effect and was the way i did this "leopard skin "paint job.
the scoot was all painted with silver flake over a silver base colour and then coated in candy colour ,but the darker areas were just done with more coats of candy than the rest ..
