Still don't understand, if the spark ignites the mixture around it the spark is surrounded by flame and therefore redundant even if it is there longer, once the fuel around the plug is burnt there isn't anything left for the longer duration spark to ignite, is there?. So why does a longer spark burn more of the mixture than the flame front as any unburnt mixture is around the outside of the combustion chamber, the spark in the middle of this is left with no fuel to burn. Perhaps the ones that saw no benefit had properly sorted ignitions.KTy wrote:I think your reasoning is pretty accurate concerning the front flame and stuff, but, there are some timing constants and this is also where having a high voltage helps; When the capacitor discharge into the coil (CDI=Capacitive Discharge Ignition), the higher it is, the longer it will take and hence, the better the burning should be.
So, Higher energy and longer spark help burning most of the mixture.
I have to mention that it is really config dependent; some people really experience some enhancement, some others just mention a "smoother" engine, finally some (few to be honest) do not "feel" nothing...
SPARK MAGNIFIER!!!

I hear what your saying, but if you check most aftermarket ignition systems will make some kind of in line gismo to boost spark if its not already incorporated in the system.
There are some dyno runs on the thread link that show what i presume is some kind of comparison, as its in take away talk, not sure if they are regrds this device. Ive just ordered one dont think i will feel much diffrence riding as have an augusto fitted anyway but at 26 euro worth a bash.

@firekdp: Maybe because one typical issue with 2-stroke is unburned mixture (hence lower engine efficiency) due to uncorrect mixture "quality" in terms of emulsion and air/fuel ratio...
Fact is, my daily scooter overall performs better with it !
Wait for more feedbacks !

An IN400 and a 0.47uf cap cost next to nothing. Personally I think the effect of increasing the voltage above what's needed to ignite the mixture will be mostly in the mind. But it's worth trying for a couple of quid.

My thoughts exactly- 10 caps and 10 diodes cost me £8 posted ( well not strictly speaking cost me personallySpecial X wrote:An IN400 and a 0.47uf cap cost next to nothing. If you build it, make sure you order the right type of cap; they must be NON-polarized and 400VAC capable (or 250VDC). Check pictures in previously mentioned threads.

Read the thread, thought to myself "I can do that," so went to Maplin and bought the bits.
It took me 30 minutes to throw together and fit. Went like a bag of cak at first, I'd connected the wrong green wire......... it connects to the green from the stator..... changed it over and by jove I think it works!
It started first kick (mind you it is a Vespa and mostly starts first kick anyway,) and it definately sounds crisper off idle. I fitted it late last night so haven't been for a proper spin yet so I'll let you know how it goes.

Got all my bits together today so will be trying it tonight, watch this space, got some snake oil to rub on my tyres as well just in case it doesn't work.
If it aint broke.........tinker with it.....
I use one of these make my spark look 3 times the size....

this definatly works,
many years ago when i was a young lad the cops had mini vans the they moved onto escorts ,now i remember trying to escape from the law man in my fairly quick cooper s but the mk2 escort was a lot faster only 1300cc,a few years later i bought a 1300 ex cop car and i pulled it to bits to find out 'why' the only thong different was some fancy plug caps, every thing else cam valves etc was stock 1300,so i tried these on my 1600 pushrod mexico, guess what it was a different motor, thats all i changed it was 5 hp up .cheap power!
lets here more of these things!
regards
