Posting on a forum is good for awareness, but it's only the manufacturer and/or distributed than can follow up and indicate the cause and whether it may be a batch issue.
It surprises me sometimes though, when one person posts on something like this and all the others come out of the woodwork like the BGM stator failures a while ago now, I guess we all think we're the only one with a failure, or sometimes don't post for fear of repercussions :-?

I totally agree that issues with the products we buy and depend upon show be highlighted if defective, be it the poor fit of a minor part or as in this case something life more safety related. A forum like this is an ideal place to bring these issues to our attention as how else are we to be made aware.
Taking this further though, is not as important to feed this information back to the supplier/manufacturer. Is it not critical they have the opertunity to examine the artical and have the opertunity of redress and modification of future production.
I ran a garage for a while and amongst the complaints I dealt with was someone who's car tyre (major brand fitted new) appeared faulty. He screamed how could we put his family in mortal danger like this and where is the compo. I saw the tyre on the car and it was deformed, but he refused point blank for me to have it to send back to the manufacturer for analysis or even for us to put the car on the ramp to examin it properly. I was never any further as to what caused the issue and unable to help the customer.

Although not tyre related ( rubber inner tube though), my bro had a nasty blow out on his vespa , when examined the michelin inner tube had came away at the join ( vulcanised join or whatever you call it).
Straight on the phone to michelin , they tell him to send it back for testing etc , which he did , left for a few weeks then follow up e-mail , it's still in testing we'll get back to you , yeah you guessed , no further replys .
What chance have we got when multi-national companies are fouling up there tyres and tubes?
And this is not a new problem i stopped using S1's years back after they changed the way the made them .
Here's a photo of a dexter michelin tread peeling off.

Also have witnessed a continental twist race do the exact same.
We're all doomed i tell thee.... ;)

I work for a car dealership and we sometimes get bulges or very un even were on tyres, if they are low mileage we send the tyre back to the supplier who then sends it back to the manufacturer. They then test it, if they find it is the fault of there tyre for failure they then pay a percentage of the tyre cost in compensation depending on mileage the tyre has done etc etc... Surely there would some form of system in place for tyre failure?

why put it on a forum?

Stainless rims splitting
shock absorbers breaking
base gaskets failing
digital speedo failing
solid rims not fitting properly
rear hubs made of cheese
faulty valves on tubes/rims
stators not fit for the job

just a few that have come to attention on forums

cheers to those that have made me aware of these problems, Dave

Has the main distributer stopped selling these now?
Would like to think they have, at least until the problem is sorted.

My weatherman whitewall did the same on the rear. I think the grip is damn good but after reading this thread its a shame. They were hyped up & hard to get hold of due to demand a while back, I wont be buying them again.

It would be interesting to find out where the bulged ones came from if you can let us know.

TBH I've been running Racemans for years with no problems on a high hp scoot so I am surprised to hear this. It should be noted that if you run under-inflated tyres at high speeds or loads then they will overheat and blister like this. Under-inflation causes head due to increased internal friction in the tyre as it flexes while rotating. The carcass can only take so much heat before it starts to fall apart.

I've seen it before where a manufacturer gets a good reputation with a very good quality product and then shifts production to a cheaper factory and it all goes to s**t: as mentioned when Michelin S1 shifted from Italy to Thailand they suddenly ceased to grip and no longer fitted the rims. The same happened with some of the Contis which were fantastic when they were made in Taiwan and I've subsequently seen this exact same problem from once they shifted production to Indonesia.

Anyone else had problems with this brand of tire?
Gonzo Have you contacted the dealer you bought it from?
