As I am a numpty with electrical theory, can any tell me if it possible to change the 12v AC from the regulator to DC using a separate rectifier and then use the DC voltage to power all the lighting on a Lambretta?

hello Mike aka Soulsurfer, have you looked at your rectified dc voltage with a multimeter? how stable was it? thanks.

It's stable at 14.5 volts just about anywhere in the sytem and at different rpm, I was impressed with how stable it was and at £24 delivered for the reg/rec, I think it's a no-brainer

Little bit off topic but I have been reading about people converting their electrics to full wave DC
and the following schematic has got me wondering.




It seems that people are isolating the AC side from earth and then earthing one leg of the DC. Wouldn't it be easier to leave the AC leg earthed and then isolate the DC leg from earth? It would require extra wires to be run to lights, horn etc, but it would save messing around with the flywheel.
Possible???

I dunno but it seems easier to modify the stator to me It's not difficult, just mark your stator position, undo, desolder the earth, run the new wire and you're done. If you ever get stuck and need to fit a Vespa type regulator again, you can just earth the extra stator wire to the frame and you're back to AC. Simples

Yes it would be possible, but along with wiring everything back to the battery negative you would have to fit another horn switch somewhere, so one wire at the stator is far simpler.

Thanks,nice easy to follow but for an idiot like me when you say earth connection broken and new wire added, I assume that means connect old earth wire to new (yellow) wire as ' new'circuit?
Also I have modified Indian loom with front brake light switch similar to the MB one in Sticky's manual but the ignition wires (green, white and yellow disappear into the loom and reappear at the CDI. I presume the ignition circuit is totally separate from all this?

Yes, I would run as,say yellow/green, just so you know which one it is

Correct. You only connect black to frame earth and red to the loom, the two yellows connect to the stator wires (yellow and yellow/green), it doesn't matter which way round the stator wires go.
