I'm now thinking there must be a fairly standard fix for this problem. I'll post up some progress reports over the coming weeks

I had two bad vibration issues. First one, the flywheel side bearing journal was out of round... a new bearing would 'fix' it for a hour or two. You could grab the flywheel and move it up and down, but only at BDC!
Second was the clutch spreading, couldn't work out what it was until the thing fell apart, taking a bit of the crank with it.

Engine now stripped. The crank clutch side bearing is loose in the crank case and is spinning, causing excessive side play on the crank. Found the crank webs have been cut about for increased inlet duration,so I'm assuming it's out of balance. Engine mounts are original Piaggio soft type, so I'm think these are doing a good job.
I'm in the process of checking the flywheel and clutch alignment.
