I've split a few cases but never changed the bearings and seals around the crank on a standard P2. I have done it and it's all back together. It turned over about 5 times and now the kickstart is slipping down, like the clutch is on but not quite the same. I disconnected the clutch just in case but it's still the same. Any ideas anyone?

I had a similar problem it was the piston on the kickstart sticking in because I put a new shaft on it which was about 3mm to long and was catch the kickstart gear causing it to burr and keep the kickstart piston in hence the slipping

sent from over there next to the tree

Sounds to me to be an issue with the loose kick start cog and/or spring.
Casings apart again unfortunately.
If in any doubt replace both and check the Xmas tree where it meshes any for signs of wear/damage.

Before you pull it apart remove the clutch cover and work the kickstart and see if the clutch is turning as the key may have snapped or fallen out when refitting the clutch.
