Hi guys, been looking at the grand sport rings for the dr piston..heard you can use them on the dr piston instead of the dr rings to cope with higher revs etc-but surely they are still 2mm thick to fit the grooves in the dr piston so its kinda defeating the object? Or are they better quality rings? Has anyone got any info please?
DR standard rings are plain cast iron, ok for the mild tuned barrel, there doesn't seem to much info on the SIP website, but if they are made of a better material, SGI or similar, or are chrome inlaid, they will be better quality. they wont be steel at 2mm, and a smaller thickness ring wont fit properly on your piston. they wont do any harm fitting them, and seem relitvley cheap . the contact area on the OD surface could well be 1mm, depends how the OD was ground.
