No
Use a thick flat washer, good quality spring washer and a deep nut
Torque it up to 17lbs/ft

try stover nuts or philidas nuts. both are all metal self locking nuts. http://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/en/ca ... tover-nuts

Have you looked into why it's vibrating so much?

Standard or aftermarket crank?
Aftermarkets tend to be shite so if so good chance it's out of kilter.

use a flat washer, a spring washer, and I use 4 of the longer headcowling distance nuts instead of the normal nuts, torqued to 18 ftlbs.

as I understand it you should never use "Nyloks" or similar self locking nuts on studs that are in alloy. The nyloks/ self locking nuts can lock so tight that it unscrews the thread rather than just the nut.
As stated above- flat washer; locking washer; then plain nut.
