malossi 166 gearing

wht is the best gearing for malossi 166??i'm more into top end...cause most of my ride is on a highway....
hope you guys can help me...

A clutch drive cog upgear, 21 or 22 teeth will be useful, depending on your pipe and the rest of your set up. 22 is taller obviously and would get you a higher top speed, but might be too tall depending on your exhaust and the rest of your set up.

I once had a 166 with P200 primaries but this was only any good when going down hill with the wind behind you. Then it was great!

If the casings are matched properly and the inlet timing done right then it should pull 22/68 easily.
I have seen a few with 23/65 and have one in the workshop at the mo. It does feel overgeared to me but the guy that owns it is about 4ft tall and 7 stone so will no doubt be fine for him.

As Al said, transfers and timing need to be sorted.
Mine pulled 23/65 with P125 gears ok, but I also fitted a 60mm P2 crank. Made it a 175cc. Well worth doing. 30mm PHBH and PM pipe.
Used it as my rally going engine for a few years.
Engine is now in my 'crosser' with 20/68 :twisted:

my set up is...malossi 166 with casing matched...spaco26-26 carb,,simmoni exhaust...std px crank....
would this set up have the power to pull the 23/65 gearing???

lml gear box are worth a try there 4th gear is better then the t5 it pulls alot quicker in 4th as ive tryed it against a piaggio 125 box with t5 4th gear beat the other scoot in every gear

ok,,last week i try to put the 23/65.....it pull very quick...but in 4th gear its start to scream very bad..and vibrate also...any ideas whats going wrong...then later,i put the 22/67 back....there no vibrate at all....please help me guys....

i use a malossi 166 i have lml gear box and its spot on i use my everyday and can not fault it one bit
