well, new scooter for the next season nearly finished (just need some levers to finish ) and was wondering about an Augusto advance /retard box for a change . so what are people running , and i mean really running , on the road, and what are their thoughts? engine is Malossi 221, 60 stroke cut crank, full ported cases, malossi manifold and 30mm dellorto with frame hose, lightened px disc flywheel (1600grammes) cosa 5 plate strengthened clutch, S.I.P. Evo 2004 exhaust (same as a JL righthand , with more spring fittings!) so what would you recommend? a 6, 7, or 8000? and how much advance are people getting away with? 25? 24? 23? 22? most malossi"s have to be fully retarded on the stator to stop pinking, so even a few degrees advance at lower revs will help.only people who have them fitted in the real world need answer, no KBW"s please. 8-)

John @JB Tuning fitted the 7000 to my 20BHP T5 190 never had any issues with it, and that engine would rev 9000+ rpm…..don’t know if that helps any.

whats it like at high revs? does the power drop off after the rev limit of 7000 is reached?my engine is quite crisp as it is, but if it gives a little more at bottom end, (1-2 bhp) it"ll be worth it. is it?

My engine ran very rich and lumpy below 6000- 6500 rpm, 6500-9000 rpm+ very smooth and major grin factor, hits 80+ gps easy, just a real pain to ride below 6500 rpm.

JB Tuning T5 Suzuki conversion, JL RH / MB Vforce 3 reeds, 30mm delly, rewelded and cut (huge) inlet and fuel pump.

i"m hoping i wont need a fuel pump, ive fitted a SIP fast flow tap, and a 350 needle /float jet, to help it flow more juice. just seen another thread on the augusto (didnt look that hard before  )

Hi Goldeneye
Ive got the 7000 fitted to my Polini T5, retarded back to 24 I think. I like it on the T5 especially riding thru traffic, just seems to calm the T5 down a tad, much smoother, lose a few MPH on the top end but I can live with that

goldeneye, do a search, type in agusta 6-7-8000, i,ve tried all 3, like i say i went for the 6000 because i was looking for the advance timing at bottom end, i,m set at 30-31 deg and retards back to 18-19deg at half throttle...say your timing is 14 deg, it depends were you want your augusta to retard to on your throttle, i would say make a mark on ye throttle were you hit 60mph and make the agusta retard to 14deg at that point using a strobe, as to which agusta i,d say the 7000 as your set up is probs gunna rev to 8000,s, or go for the 6000 if ye want big advance

31 degrees! :o ive never ran a motor with that much advance. i was thinking if it had , say , 8 degrees of retardation, set it to 23, and itll go back to a safe 15 at higher revs, but 31 sounds like holey piston time to me, if you held it at the wrong throttle position for too long, e.g. cruising on the motoway . ive had a malossi 210 hole a piston (well, a massive dent in the top) after trying 19 degrees .
