sip speedo thermocouple

the thermo on my sip speedo has broken off and its about 20 quid for a new one this is the 2nd one thats failed they seem a bit fragile i have the fin drilled as the ring is a crap fit. so has anyone changed the thermocouple for a better one. im looking at the trail tech gauge for my muggy 230 but none available at the moment but want to use the sip speedo on my serveta as its already set up .
