Hey,
I rebuilt the scooter (tv175). Previous owner was heavy and liked to race off the line. The clutch steels were like a prize fighters ears so I replaced along with new corks.

The clutch basket showed the rough edges and impact marks so I filed down.

When the engine is started from cold, and I put in gear but clutch still out I can feel it engage and the engine stalls. If I Rev it, it won't stall. If the engine is warm this does not happen.

Thoughts?

Tx in advance.
David

Did you pre-soak the corks in oil before assembly?

Yes, if I didn't do long or well enough, is that a symptom?

I usually soak them overnight. If you didn't it may cause the sticking. However after a short period of use, it should sort itself out.

I once put the clutch cable in the slot on the clutch arm that is situated on the top of the case cover (at least thats were I thought it had gone)when I looked again the clutch cable was fitted below the slot. The clutch worked ok but when the scooter was in first gear the clutch nipple was catching on the gear change rod and wouldn't let the clutch lever out.

So my kickstart was rubbing against the top steel. Just enough to put some pressure but not enough to cause slipping. I was breaking the new build in so was not thrashing the engine to the point that a slip would be noticeable. This caused by new corks to get black and burned looking.

Ground down the kickstart and fresh forks, and it’s sorted now.
