how many amps will the horn button support?

Hi,
going to add a horn louder than the stock duck-fart. I'm converting back to a battery, so will have DC power. I'm wondering at what kind of amperage will the horn wires melt. Above that I will put a relay in place.

Tx
David

Standard Lambretta cable is rated to about 8A. It's the switch contacts that are going to suffer, especially when switching DC and even more so if it is an inductive load. I'd fit a relay to protect the switch.

If you have another use for the button you could always use a relay. Then the horn button would then just work the switching circuit.

I've done this on my scoot and got a DC horn off Corrado. Very loud and no issues with the existing wiring.

A full DC set up with a DC horn (original or remade) is loud, and has saved me several times from careless NYC taxi drivers. Bright lights from the conversion are an added bonus.
