I also originally had a scootopia 22 but it felt it was holding the engine back so put a pwk 28 made a massive difference

I've built 2 195 kits with bgm clubman nice torquey motor. don't think you get much more with the big block kits.

One of my mates has the 195 with a franspeed pipe and 30mm PHBH on his Winter and it's faster than my standard 200 for sure. He's geared it at about 5.2 on a pacemaker box with 16x46 - it wouldn't pull 4th on the Li150 box with those sprockets - we might have been as well to have dropped a tooth on the front sprocket in hindsight.

Surprised the RT kit doesn't pull that gearing with that setup, exact same setup as my GT186 and that pulls 4th, although the 60 stroke crank helps

I have a Casa 185 with a PHBL 25 through a standard airbox with the Li150 gearbox and 16x46 sprockets,it pulls it with ease and revs out in top.

Pulling a 4th gear means nothing, unless you consider the rev range of the motor at the same time. Speed relates to gear ratio and RPM ceiling... and the ability to pull said ratio.

If you look at AF's gearing recommendations (similar to what is shown in Sticky's) for the same TS1 225 across the range of pipes that they consider, you'll note that the 4th range is probably from something like 5.7 (certainly 5.2) to 4.6, yet that motor will be topping out at over 80mph (if set up correctly... more than 90mph according to the press release).

The scene's fascination with running as high (low number) a 4th ratio as possible is a key factor in many people being disappointed in the motors that they build. if your kit/tune is ported to produce power at higher RPM, overgearing it means that you'll not achieve the revs in 4th that you need for the tune to work correctly and all you'll do is end up with a bike that cannot reach the powerband in 4th (typically great in 3rd though). Basically, if your kit is ported to work at revs then let it rev. Fitting a higher 4th ratio does not mean that you can cruise at lower revs, it just means that you spend more time changing down to 3rd :(

If you're going to judge performance according to gear ratio, I'd love to see how a 5.5 BHP LI150 (5.2:1 4th) compares to a 20 BHP TS1 225 with PM pipe or JL4/Fran Race on the same 5.5 gearing. 50MPH vs. 80MPH!
