Thicker gear shim ?
Hi, I've posted on here earlier today regarding a rattling gearbox & the fact that I've given up trying to solve it ! but,i just had another thought, would it be worth trying a thicker 1st gear shim, currently have a 2.2mm one in there , which was in the spec of feeler gauge recommendation,so was thinking of trying a 2.4mm to see if this would maybe tighten things up a little more & hopefully stop the rattling , any info would be great before I pull the engine apart again

Not if fitting the thicker shim takes the gap outside the tolerance range.
Hi, when I fitted the 2.2mm shim the smallest feeler gauge I could get to fit was 0.10mm so I could maybe try a 2.4mm shim as the lowest recommended gauge size is 0.07mm ,I could be wrong though, as maths was never my strongest subject !
Thanks, I did say maths was never my greatest subject

If youre within lower tolerance it could well be the gearbox worn on inner face, hence the rattle? Found this in my Gp 200 with 58k on. Unfortunately parts do where out

Just reading through you're noisy geabox thread, it could be layshaft or gearbox itself not to tolerance. How many prts need a fettle
Thanks guys, yes,I'm thinking the gearbox cogs & cluster could be worn,it's a sil gp 200 box that I've ran in ts1 for about 4 years & I know they aren't as hard wearing as the Italian ones so maybe I do need a new one
