My endplate dowel holes are slightly loose, with only the dowels fitted the end plate can rotate a total of about 1mm at the layshaft bearing end.
Apart from welding up the holes and getting it on a milling machine what's the alternative to bring this to bring it back to a useable state?

hi, i had the same problem with my rotax build, i drilled through the backplate into the worn holes with the backplate bolted down correctly, i then cut the shank of the drill bit into 2 bits to use as dowels, worked well, i think i used an 8mm drill.
