Early type layshaft question

Are early fatter layshafts useable? Building a standard ish 200 engine and I have one in good nick? Cheers chaps Image

I think people do use them in later engines. There's no reason why not.

Been using one in a 30bhp ts1 for two years without any probs

They are a little heavy. Depends what you what your engine to do.. Nothing wrong with them. Weight can be a good thing.

No mate mainly local runs with the odd longer rally.it was the better nick one of each type I had when I put it together

Both are interchangeable, I have both types and you will not notice any difference.

I cant understand why they made the later ones thinner,unless it was something to do with the machining of the layshaft.Making it easier to hold the layshaft in some kind of lathe when they were new.
