I see Anthony Tambs is doing a very similar thing. Runs off ac using one of his inteliconverters or can run from the dc feed from the regulator using what he calls a smoothing diode in the feed wire, about £45 I think.

He also does one now that runs direct from the AC power output on a 3 pin 12v AC regulator,the same as a Lukas CDI.Same price ie.£45.

Aren't they just cheap generic Chinese atv/scooter components though?

^... my tuppence worth, I'm aware that Anthony Tambs builds and sells some very good stuff, to the extent of my buying some of his stuff, but I have no experience of his coils or CDIs. As such, all I can comment on is how 'fit for purpose' the Readspeed item is (seemingly excellent).
