Stuck on engine decisions

Right I'm currently dry building my series 3 Li project and it's coming to the time of deciding which route to go down engine wise.

Now the scooter is an early Spanish Li150 (1965) and a 150 clearly isn't going to cut it.

Now I'm looking for a bit of a screamer in regards to engine build, purely because I have my 300 gts for touring etc etc.

Now I've been looking at a few kits, spoke to a few dealers etc but thought I'd come here for a good bit of information hopefully.

So the 2 kits I've been looking at are the GT186 and the imola 186, read good things about both.

Now I'm looking at replacing the crank too, cam lam recommended the premium 58/107 off themselves to go with the imola.

Carb options I think I'm looking towards a PHBH30 and then the JL3 exhaust

Then electronic ignition and a decent engine bearing and seal set etc

What do you guys reckon, what experiences have you had and where is the best to go for the bits.

Bare with me this is my first lammy build, I've come from a race car back ground and work in aerospace so I have a good understanding though, cheers

there does seem to be a trend of going back to Lambretta "roots" i.e. keep standard but efficient. Messrs Innocenti did know one or two things after all.

If you're changing crank I'd be inclined to go for something bigger, the GT 62/110 is nice and would take you up to 200cc with those kits. You may need to cut a trench for the eccentric pin and cater for the longer rod but sounds like you're up to the job.

GT186, a GT 60/110 crank, PHBH30 and a Franspeed Race (all available from RichT direct or Eden), Li150 16/46 gearing. Got this setup in one of mine and it flies..but is also still rideable around town. Will happily cruise at 60/65 all day with another 10+ for overtaking. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others

Bgm dc stator for me with a elemec flywheel, AF cassette clutch.

Mines a GT240 but same carb and pipe as Burnside, 17/46.

Check out Anthony Tambs on Face Book for quality stator, external pickup and high voltage cdi, if you get in quick he might still have some mid weight flywheels too.

you might also consider the rb20 which fits the smallblock case, you will need the high performance crank to go with it, you will also need the rb exhaust as it different.

suzuki 190 kit, you can tailor it to suit either as a tourer or a thrasher , not too heavy on cost and being cast you can bring it back from the dead for sensible coin. Paul
