bgm stator wont retard enough

Ive just fitted a lighter flywheel from af and im now struggling to retard my bgm stator to 17deg , the best i can get is 19 deg , i have filed the holes as far as i dare go , the std flywheel seems to retard a lot further , any suggestion? Thanks Steve

you have put new TDC marks on mag and flywheel?

Have you had it running and strobed it.
I had exactly the same issue with a BGM stator and AF flywheel- but static 19 deg was actually 16 deg when strobed

Yes tdc and timing marks on , and strobed

when looking at the flywheel were is the keyway for the woodruff key it should be at about 8 oclock i have heard of some flywheels with it in the wrong place but i would think af would be ok but you never no

Yes garry woodruff key is at 8 o'clock, and when the arrow on the flywheel is on the 19 degree mark , the two lines mark up with the pick up box on the stator

You need one of Anthony Tambs external pickups,(look him up on Facebook) works a treat and so much easier to adjust, no need to remove the flywheel.

Well I just fit a v4 bgm on my mates ts23o which I set at 16 and strobed in and it was 1to2mm from the end of adjustment not sure what flywheel it was the engine was built by Andy Francis and the stator had shorted out

I remember having to improve the slots on v2 and v3 but they made them longer on v4 there wasent any play on the mag housing when fitted as a couple of 30mm would put it right at 19 you could run hot
