Hi,
On my DL200 with a varitronic, my digital sip speedo doesn't work.
It turns on and turns off slowly.
But the speedo works well when I wire it directly on a battery.
Is it because the varitronic doesn't provide DC current ?
I've heard of using a "R" spark plug.
Will it solve the problem ?
Or will I be obliged to add a battery on my scooter ?
Thanks.
JB

Varitronic seems to have low voltage output at low RPM and the SIP speedo will tend to switch on and off when the voltage drops too low.
With the battery connected you will have a constant DC voltage which is the best solution for the SIP, but it will work of AC OK as long as it stays at 12v (not the case with the Varitronic at low RPM).
The resistor plug will do nothing for this problem. However you should fit a resistor plug or resistor cap (but not both) as the SIP speedo can be susceptible to HT interference causing intermittent errors (especially with the temperature sensor wired in).

Even on standard 12 volt a/c system my special sip speedo cuts out sometimes on tickover. One problem you will find with battery is switching the speedo off.

It's been covered a lot to use the Resistor plug when running the temp sensor but I haven't heard of having to run one for normal operation.
These speedos are sensitive to low voltage drops. You can run a battery if you like or adjust your idle up to the point where the speedo doesn't turn off.
