Change spark plug? 8 to 7??

Evening troops!

Had me scoot dyno'd at Chiselspeed a few months back and she is running great. They did tell me that she would be a little boggy when 'farting around town' as Martin put it. Anyway, just recently I am only using scoot to potter about on so not getting out on long runs - the off shoot of this is that I am ruining plugs very quickly and scoot starts to run a bit pants. Change of plug and she runs great again. So, my question is - can i change my plug from a BR8ES to a hotter BR7ES so that it will burn hotter and clean the plug. Engine is TS1 225

My scooter GT186 has never ran better since i changed to b7es on Rich T advice,,,,,,,,,,,,,even on 250 mile jaunts i stick to the 7, plug colour is always good and easy read...........takes a lot of heat for abad engine to melt a plug..

Were as the steel barrel would prob heat seize if too hot your ts would possiblyhole the piston. Lots of ts1 run ok on a b8 so maybe the jetting needs looking at again

Personally, I find the magical abilities attributed to spark plugs in old fashioned two-stroke engines unlikely. If your engine is destroying plugs, be they b7es or 8, or 9 or 6 or 5. I suggest your engine is running too hot.

Not running too hot - running rich - meaning around town the plug fouls up - maybe I will stick to the 8 and give it a good blast whenever i can to save plugs

Try the 7 and keep an eye on it, if you are town riding you won't get hot enough to cause ant rapid damage

Hi Scott

With NGK plugs the higher the number the hotter the plug. So you'd need to try a BR9ES, not drop to a cooler plug such as the BR7ES.

NGK plug numbers increase for the hotter running plugs, where as Champion go the opposite way (i.e. an RN3C is the equivalent of the BR8ES, or an RN2C would be the hotter Champion plug than you are running at present).

NGK Spark Plug Heat Rating
The spark plug heat range has no relationship to the electrical energy transferred through the spark plug. The heat range of a spark plug is the range in which the plug works well thermally. The heat rating of each NGK Spark Plug is indicated by a number; lower numbers indicate a hotter type, higher numbers indicate a colder type.

T5s use a BR9 because it is a cooler plug.
