In besides the piston of a GT kit. As these pistons are for bikes I assume it's nowt to do with scooters?

It's a ring separator from a 350lc.

You don't need it on the gt kit you're building

It looks like part of an oil control ring set. They go at the bottom of a piston on a 4 stroke set up.

I found exactly the same when I changed the rings on my GT kit.
I contacted Rich Taylor who he told me it wasn't needed. I have a fair few thousand since my new rings with no issues.
