Here's mine as a comparison coaster. Now on eBay no reserve!

Is that an early one? By early I mean one of the 1st batch?
Indeed kit No 51. why are the early ones prone to losing their lining?

I've got kit No 71 and did 10K trouble free miles, but on a strip down noticed the Nicasil plate had worn and left a lip (at top of the barrel).

I noticed this after I holed my piston and removed part of the plating......

No trouble with the barrel after 10 000 miles.

When I did my yearly strip down and re-build I think I may have bottomed out a cylinder stud. basically I ended up with a crack around the casing where the stud hole was. I didn't realize this until the piston holed. I did a pressure test before stripping it back down and found the air "gushing" out of the cylinder head bolt. Got the casing re-welded and the barrel re-plated and now running sweet as. like I say, not the barrels fault it failed.

The offending casing

Did you say you were using groundsman oil? use a decent synthetic when it's fixed and all should be well. Before the contradictions start, I'd like to point out that the Avanti is not a hedge trimmer or chainsaw.

funny that is because Ron recommends using groundsman in the Avanti!

no Lambretta engines are hedge trimmers or chainsaws and as such don't get the same abuse and running hours clocked up by industrial hedge trimmers and chainsaws.

Groundsman is a decent semi synthetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run mine on a mixture of exol and rock oil, mixture as in sometimes one or t'other. Isn't groundsman rock oil?
