My scoot cut out this morning...checked the spark, good, have compression & fuel. Whipped the carb off and thought my finger was touching the piston. Would it not start if the reed petals were ferked?

Scott.

We had an issue in Brittany with Jabba's TS1 where it would start but not rev, and there was a lot of spitback from the carb. Stripped top end down and his reeds had come loose. One of the tiny screws had embedded itself in the bowl of the cylinder head. Put it back together with Loctite on the little screws threads and it got him nearly home (his exhaust parted company with the scoot on the M11)

I think that's the screw from the reedblock under the ring

Jabba was a bit luckier than you, and there was no damage to his bore and just a slight dig in the piston crown. Think this demonstrates that all reed valve screws should be checked and Loctited before fitting. I have a Scoot RS reed block to fit to my Avanti once Ron gets some of those reed valve pistons back in with the skirt and windows ready cut, and I shall certainly be removing the screws and Loctiting them back in well and proper tight.
