I have a square back type seat I was hoping to stick on my GP. It's been lying around a while and the hinge at the front seems to be stuck solid. Trying to put any force into moving the hinge is bending the base plate and, I think ,where the hinge is welded on.

Anyone got any bright ideas for shifting it without destroying the hinge?

At the moment I've smothered it in wd40 and hope...

I have just had the exact same thing with a rusty Vega seat which is a lot less sturdy than a large frame seat, believe me.

Soaking for days with WD40, penetrating oil etc. did nothing. Three or four minutes with a blow torch did though :)

WD40 is meant for Water Displacing, its not really a penetrant or free-er off-erer.
A 50% mix of thinners and ATF is supposed to be better than any commercial penetrating fluid - from tests long ago (in a galaxy far far away no doubt).

Cheers, lads.

I think I have both thinners and ATF living about somewhere worth a shot.

+1- Great stuff. Get the liquid rather than the aerosol.
