Hi All, Now this may seem like a silly question but here goes, Just fitted my gearbox etc to the build I'm doing, got it shimmed to .10mm and all turning freely, the thing is, is there a required measurement for the layshaft to protrude through the endplate bearing track ? I've got a distance of @ 2.7mm from the end of the layshaft to the outer face of the bearing track. During fitting the endplate seemed to face up to the engine casing ok with the use of the hammer handle and all the requisite shims etc are fitted. There also seems to be a very slight endfloat at the end of the layshaft with a pulling sleeve fitted but not done to 120lbft just tight ( would this be taken up by the hub being fitted ). Also had concern about the cluster bearing track fitting after seeing a mention on a website about them not being inserted far enough at the factory but was assured by the dealer that this had been checked before despatch ( it seemed to protrude about 1mm ish from the casing hole ). Any idea's will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Anyone got any help on this ? Additional info - RIV rear hub bearing bought from a good dealer, INA needle roller bearings elsewhere. Just a bit concerned that the layshaft needle roller may not be seated all the way into the bearing track in the endplate thus causing the play at the hub end. Really need to get this sorted one way or another.

Thanks in advance

As far as the xmas tree/cluster is concerned, it gets pulled up away from the casing when the main sprocket/clutch is all fitted and tightened up by the large tab washer and nut, so shouldn't be a problem. You have fitted the shim underneath the cluster? And the track in the casing does have a shim under it twixt it and the casing?

The layshaft should be pulled into the rear hub bearing as far as it can go with a pulling tube.

Yup all the bits are there, it's just the fact the layshaft end is not flush with the endplate bearing track outer ridge and the play that exists when rocking the hub end of the layshaft.

Cheers

Andy
