This issue comes up frequently. I haven't got time to list everything so thought I'd start it rolling with the first part then over to everyone else to add one part at a time.

Item, from where and cost. Working on the basis of the average untouched SIL GP200 engine being £1,000.

1. GP200 casing with silent blocks and end plate fitted from Scooter Restos £349.00

This is a list of parts required in alphabetical order. I can't remember where I got it from but it's in Excel format and quite comprehensive, so may have been Richard Taylor.

I've been running these numbers myself. It is the unfortunate truth that if you do not have a very ready (and comprehensive) Aladin's cave of old parts (gear boxes bearings, clutches primary drives etc) then the cheapest option is to buy a compete Indian engine, strip off the parts you don't want and leave or modify the parts that are suitable. This even applies if you have to totally gut the engine.

Another option (as just done by a mate) buy said 200 casings and buy a second-hand 125/150 engine and use the parts to help build a new motor. It is the smaller "cheap" items that make a build from scratch very expensive.

It was more of a game really [a bit like the "pointless thread on song titles" ] with one part added per post to see who spotted the last missing bit of the jigsaw.

OK, who's going to fill in all the prices on Mike's list?

This is the way to go, but I tend to strip and throw away 175 casings as I like that gearing better.

prefer the early Li 125 engines myself, original gearbox with 18 x 47 allows a quality new 82 link chain, gives a great ratio for a torquey motor, nice 1st gear for loaded up scoot / clutch life etc plus most have had an easy home life and then subsequently been left alone by the Island Ape boys.
Dread to think what Mikes list would total up in retail value ?
