Never seen the windows in the piston sit so high up the piston directly above the gudgeon pin area.

Looking at it I'd guess the head is recessed into the barrel.

^^... it does have a squish band, a centre squish. Yep, it does look narrow, however, the total area probably isn't much less than the area of a side squish but it looks much less as it isn't all on one side. Just about every kit in recent years has had a similar arrangement.

These tuning styles seem to come into fashion, then go out of fashion again, with both being promoted for their respective good points (MSV, central thrust, better cooling, burn speeds, blah, blah, blah...), with both sides saying that they are right.

Why doesn't the charge from each of the main transfer ports p*ss straight out it neighbouring exhaust sub port? :?:

i guess port angles an pressure diferences; sum charge mite short circuit at sum rpm; im likin briged ports an wide piston cutaways ova the transfers; makin the skirt narrow inlet side with briges keepin it stable,
