Are original points stators crank specific? Or to put it another way can a Motoplat points stator be used with GP crank and flywheel?

I used a Motoplat on an Italian LI some years back- no problems- cracking output as well!
Scootering since 1968.
Don't think you can use them on GP set up

That's what I was thinking of. Phenomenal spark.bristolmod wrote:I used a Motoplat on an Italian LI some years back- no problems- cracking output as well!
That's a pity. Is that because of compatibility issues with the crank?cit205 wrote:Don't think you can use them on GP set up
Think so, though not 100% sure, just pretty sure i've asked this before and was told. So keep asking around in case i'm wrong :bigsm:

Such a pity the motoplat electronic off a lynx does not fit a GP crank. My old electronic lynx was such a great starter and the power produced through the lights was excellent

That's what mine is off - didn't fancy running the kitted engine with an LI crank.storkfoot wrote:Such a pity the motoplat electronic off a lynx does not fit a GP crank. My old electronic lynx was such a great starter and the power produced through the lights was excellent
Did you have to do that?

could you not put a gp boss onto the motoplat flywheel ? or does the motoplat boss have enough meat for it to be machined to fit the gp taper ?

The Motoplat boss is a strange wee beastie and no rivets were harmed in the making of it. It's cast into the flywheel.
I think this style is generally regarded as being a bad idea. But then it's lasted this long.
Thanks for the offer John. A 12v Motoplat stator is tempting, but isn't the flywheel supposed to be very heavy?
