it was dave who built the rd400 rod on sil webs for me - he supplied the rod
he`s just me a p200
i trust him with cranks, boring and machining work
depending on who builds crank there`s differing opinions

Gaz, just so I've got this right, I ordered the RD250 rod off that site you said but what the difference with the RD400 rod.gaz_powell wrote:it was dave who built the rd400 rod on sil webs for me - he supplied the rod

Dave, top bloke, knows engines, crap jokes
He's got a jig on his lathe for opening out engine cases for Rapido 250's etc. For a none Lambretta dealer he does lots for Lambretta riders. Good deals on tyres and can get tyres onto Scootrs rims without scratching them.

Lamaddict - the 400 rod is longer by 5mm and has a larger outer diameter on the big end
rd 400 :-
Big end to small end ctr 115mm (rd250 110mm)
Small end 16mm bearing
Big end 22mm pin
Big end bearing 28x22x16
Width of big end 16mm - webs will need machining down to suit
0.5mm washers - could be 1.0mm !
rd 400 big end outer diameter is larger than the 250 so work needs to the rod and/or casing - Dave ground the big end down after discussion
i got the rd400 rod to use in ts1 with a yam it 175 piston - my next project !

Well working conversion (BGM crank + RD 400 rod + Wiseco IT 175 Piston). Noticed it yesterday when I pull out me TV of the garage, try to start and found out the reason for the strange noises on the way back from belgium last year. Cylinder Head loosened and a missing exhaust bold, but the piston looks like newgaz_powell wrote:

im using exactly the same set up, Harry Barlow done the rod conversion, wiseco It175 piston, .im sure he used a different big end bearing thou.

win or lose have a booze
I heared never let the shims out, and to use 1mm instead of 0.5mm.
So what is right ? Whitout shims friction will be big.

i will happily build engines all day - vespa and lambretta standard to ts1 - cranks i cannot build so i rely on the crank builder. th e crank builders i use have a wealth of experience and i value that.
there does seem to be differing opinion regarding to shim or not to shim but by the same token there are cranks out there that use shims and those that don`t.
i have just put a SIL crank into a rapido classic - The crank was in excellent condition with only about 600miles on it - i had it stripped and rebuilt with a quality NRB bearing and utilised the original pin and rod.- no shims
i have just done a ts1 with sil webs and an AF RB Rod - no shims with the rod kit so assembled without them on advise
vespa mec webs assembled with shims as they came with the rod kit
so who knows whos right or wrong ?
