Hi all Just wanted some advise on what gearing to run, this is what I have.
Mugello 186 with 60mm mecure crank and old style head making 192. Chiselspeed ADS3 with a dellorto PHBH26. I am prepared to change the carb if you tell me it would be better with something else. I have a Spanish Li150 gearbox and a Varitronic.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve
Not advice, there's plenty on here more qualified to give you that
But my experience, I've got a couple of Mugello 186 kits:
1. Mk2, 28 PHBH, JL3, runs standard GP200 gears (Final drive: 1:5.22)
2. Mk4, TM24, Clubman, runs Li125 with 17 front sprocket (Final drive: 1:4.9)
Both the above work for me
There's plenty of people who run 26mm PHBH carbs with these kits so I think that should be ok. Although your gearbox will give the correct final drive ratio, I think there's a big jump between 3rd and 4th (like the SX150 and Vijay MkII) which you could notice with an expansion pipe.
Hope this helps,
Nigel

Yeah, I ran a JL3 with 28mil Dell, 5.2 Li gearing and it did struggle on hills/head wind between 3rd/4th.
Put a big-bore on and an it now pulls 4th but down on top-end (70+ to 65max).
around 7 of us using same set up for touring with no probs (open mouth).

Old Lambretta's never die, they get tuned..................
I have been running a Muggy, 30mm Delly and JL3 through a Spanish LI150 box for 3 years, and noticed a lot of 3rd/4th upping and downing in winds and on hills.
I changed from 15/46 to 14/47 and stuck a 5 plate in as well.
Totally changed it, and am well happy.
Pulls 4th up hills and into winds easily now.
Shaun.
