as it seems very difficult to find someone to repeg a piston, want to re notch the rings instead
what is the best way to do this as dont want to overdo the notch, file, air grinder ?

Don't leave any sharp edges in your cut-out, otherwise you may have stress fractures. Otherwise, I think it is a sound alternative to re-pegging. Opinions differ.

Imo i'd find another piston. What port is the peg running through btw?

boost port,
all the jap pistons seem to run the 2 ring pegs fairly close together
wire 1mm rings
the rings are 3mm wide, and the peg are a 1mm deep the flexibilty in the rings hopefully will take the notching
or alternatively will get the barrels rewelded and need boost ports cut in
or will just run the top ring only (RB has been like this for the last 1000 miles)

Sorry I don't mean to jump this thread...but regarding running on one ring. I have 65.5mm Wiseco Suzuki piston, which I just spent the last 15 mins trying to find (no joy). One of the pegs, can't remember which now, has sunk or worn away. Presuming it's the bottom ring; will I be able to run on just the top alone?
I'm well pissed off with it really as the motor had only done 700 miles with after a rebore with this new piston and then this with ring peg!
Back on topic...who would be willing to repeg it if it's not possible to run on a single ring? I aren't gonna hold anyone responsible for a warranty on it or anything!
Not even the shop who sold me the piston in the first place would help "Mr Wiseco didn't make them to be adapted for Lambrettas you know"
