Strange question Bilko, more importantly how does it run and what does the plug look like at fixed intervals? Around town the temps will vary greatly around the low end as you are on and off the throttle.

Both good advice, you could also try swapping the wires over.

Hmm, the instructions that came with my egt suggested not to heat up the thermocouple up with an external heat source.
How come phonetics isn't spelt with an 'f'?

Hi
I guess it depends if you have analogue or digital gauge. My digital one shows between 100 and 150 degrees c on tickover. Take it for a run on an open road for a mile and it should register over 400 degrees quickly unless its rich and spluttery.
I prefer the digital type as they are far more accurate.
Hope this helps
