Just removed old 4 plate clutch for a 5 plate(Surflex).

Took it out for a spin, all ok till a mile from home when the clutch didnt disengage?

Why should this happen? - Do I need to modify the clutch basket to take the extra plate?
Also will just the springs supplied with the plates surfice or do I fit PX springs as well as was fitted on the 4 plate?

Its a GP clutch - I only removed the existing 4 plate and replaced with a 5 plate kit.

Refitted as usual.

Do I need to bend the ears of the lower plate upwards as has previously been mentioned to ease plate release?

And I have read here that my have to change to an Li top plate as it's thinner?

I did fit PX springs inside the standard springs as a precaution - was this right?

I'm stuck here and need to get it sorted ASAP as my car is playing up and am knackered for transport

HELP

the much needed free play can be obtained by a few methods...
thinner steel /plain plates, thinner top plate ...or by cutting down the crown wheel.
usually a combination of all above will give you a nice clutch.

Thanks Sean for your reply.

I bought the 5plate Surflex kit from Readspeed as an off the shelf item.

Do I need to get thinner steels then - if so where from?

When you say cut the crownwheel what do you mean ?

Will I need to have it machined down to give the plates room to move?

Sorry for all the questions

Thanks again for your reply

;) ;)
