Anyone advise on carb settings for my ts1?
Running a TMX35 with a Taffy pipe.
Carb settings are :

Slide - 6.0
Main - 300
Needle 58
Clip in needle is no 3 (1 being the top off needle and 5 being bottom)

I had the bearings and seals(All mbd kit) and a new racetour piston fitted approx 600 miles ago by Surrey Sccoter Services,
but on coming back from the Shed a few weeks back I noticed a lack of power more so when into the wind/climbing hills

Before leaving for Shed, I checked the plug and although a bit rich was ok.

Just checked the plug again and its running more lean than before - more of a lighter shade of brown/dark grey.
It wont settle down to idle either, even with the idle screw wound fully out.

I've read here that there have been issues with the Race Tour piston with the bottom ring seizing itself to the piston, could this contribute to the problems with the engines performance?

I have also checked the rubber inlet manifold and there are no visable cracks etc.

Any thoughts guys?

Its running a li150 box and as far as i know its a standard ts1 barrel.
Al(Diablo) did rebuild it a couple of years ago so I'll pm him as he may well be able to put his finger on the reason for poor running.

if its running lean, might be worth checking if surrey scooters used a MB base gasket.

celt runs a 320 main,56 needle on second clip,and a 22.5 idle jet
jl3
open mouthed 35tmx
ts1
he may have to confirm these sizes but it was set up on scooterotica,s dyno
i run the same set up with a dev tour but a filtered carb so i have a 310 main in....wouldnt think your settings should be that different

Pilot jet may be too lean, or you have an air leak somewhere. What pilot jet are you running?

Is it possible to get celt to confirm those settings.
I'm going to order a new needle and jet etc

Another question - when adjusting the mixture screw, does screwing in richen or lean the mixture?
If so , how many turns in or out is a base setting for me to work with?

Thanks again

;) ;)

Right - took the engine out of the bike today.
Noticed that 4 cylinder head bolts didnt take much to undo with the socket.
Removed the barrel and piston and rings ok.
Base gasket seems ok - there is no head gasket fitted? - Is this ok?

If this is ok , what do I seal the head with against the barrel - Is silicone sealant or is Thread Lock ok?

does the head have any dark blowby marks on it ? lap the head, i always lap the head onto the barrel but most on here use glass, give it a good wash and torque back down, a head gasket is not needed but a thin smear of sillicon will work ok

Yep - signs of blowing on the base of the head, but also noticed what I believe to be gearbox oil seeping from around the flywheel?

Only fitted new seals approx 600 miles ago???

Surely both seals cant have gone already?

I'm gonna ring the boys that built it for a chat me thinks
:x
