inboard disc clanking at low speed

put my inboard disc back together after painting and i'm getting a horrible clanking sound at low speeds. didn't do it before. It hasn't got a anti rattle clip in but can't remember seeing one when stripping it .
every thing has been put back together ok, could the lack of anti rattle clip be causing this noise, maybe it fell out when i stripped it without me noticing, that maybe why it didn't clank before, but also its supposed to brake better without the clip in according to sticky's book.

Any thoughts or experiences anybody on this one?
cheers.

Before stripping it it my have been gunked up and so stripping may have freed it off.

Both of my inboards have clanked around at slow speeds. It's kind of odd, but I suspect it's the nature of a floating disc. Or... I've put up with two poorly built hubs....

i see some discs holes drilled out which makes them rattle more. but mine aren't drilled and with the clips in don't rattle at all.
