Out of curiosity, is this the 60s heatsink/zener diode you're referring to?

If it is , i got one sat in the shed as well .

Well, here is a thread back from the dead. No, mine is a Triumph type with lots of raked fins. The one you are referring to is said to be one done for AF Rayspeed I believe. I only know that because there was one on e.Bay a while ago. :D

As I understand it - and without splitting hairs - it was Arthur Francis in the 60's.... and fitted to the frame as pictured below.

I never was able to find out where the power claim of 9amps for this 60's AF style 12 volt conversion came from (and I have done many of these conversions myself over the last 30+ years)
The only explaination I could think of is the power rating of the Zenor which I think is/was rated at 110 watts.???

Could you tell me where I can download the article that the pages came from as I would like to do a 60s style 12volt conversion and the pics are just what Im lookiking for.
