I have read in the past that dealers put a silly price on items which are out of stock. Keeps the item visible when people search, or something like that! :?:

I think the 1 for £1000 is a missprint, the real price is £244.95,which is still expensive when you take into account the price of postage.

I wanted to order some ‘own brand’ bits from a main dealer to finish an engine job once, but they were out of stock. So I checked out eBay and found a trader at Barnsley who has an eBay advert for said item...suggesting he had a quantity of 10.

I bought the bits, and after a week of nothing arriving, I emailed to chase up the order, to which I got the response: “The main dealer is out of stock, we are just waiting for these to come back in”.

I can recall one Ebay scooter trader [based in S. Wales] listing page after page of crankshafts to suit every scooter and moped on the planet, each one had at least 10 of each in stock. Must have had a warehouse the size of a football pitch just for cranks. One of the cranks was from a company I deal with who were out of stock of this particular crank, they acknowledged that this guy [yes I just assumed his gender] was also buying the cranks from them and they said they never order 10 let alone stock 10.

When I'm out of stock of a product I have to put a daft price on it, like £999.99 for a £19.99 product because despite putting OUT OF STOCK in the description people still order the product if I leave the normal price on display.
